Electrosoft Founder and CEO, Dr. Sarbari Gupta, recently joined The Federal Drive with Terry Gerton to discuss the promise and pitfalls of using artificial intelligence to defend against today’s rapidly evolving cyber threats.

In an episode titled “Things to think about when deploying AI tools in the cybersecurity space,” Dr. Gupta explained why federal agencies must approach AI adoption with both urgency and caution. “Cybersecurity threats aren't going away, and with AI, they're even more and more insidious,” she said.

While the integration of AI into cybersecurity is inevitable, “It is also essential,” Dr. Gupta emphasized. So is keeping humans in the loop. She recommends that agencies begin with “high-value, low-risk” applications, such as using AI assistants to help human cyber analysts evaluate and respond to incidents. In this way, AI augments rather than replaces human judgment. 

Dr. Gupta advised that, as cyber adversaries - including foreign actors - embrace AI to exploit weaknesses in U.S. critical infrastructure, government and industry must work together to level the playing field.

The conversation also touched on the workforce shortage in federal cyber roles, the need for thoughtful AI deployment, and the value of frameworks like the NIST Cybersecurity Framework to guide risk mitigation across public and private infrastructure.
