30-year fed tech veteran emphasizes pivotal role of leadership in success of AI initiatives
Electrosoft Chief Operating Officer Jamie Holcombe recently appeared as a guest on the OrangeSlices.ai Former Fed Friday podcast to discuss what it takes for federal agencies to move AI beyond experimentation to mission impact. The former government leader brought decades of federal technology and cybersecurity leadership experience to the conversation. In the episode, “Turning Technology Into Mission Impact,” Holcombe cautions listeners that many AI initiatives struggle because they start with the technology rather than the mission.

If it doesn’t, stop funding it,” he said.
Holcombe names organizational culture as the single biggest obstacle to adoption, and he calls on leaders to encourage experimentation, create urgency, and hold teams accountable for rethinking old processes. His advice to government and industry leaders: “Don’t deploy AI because it’s AI. Deploy it because it makes the mission better.”
